The plate making process has become a bottleneck restricting the efficiency of printing production. CTP process reduces the intermediate process of film output, and its necessary computer mosaic output process makes the output speed of CTP significantly better than the original CTF process. Secondly, the growth of plate making volume also makes the original plate making equipment face new purchase demand. To buy CTP or CTF plate making equipment, all factories must make a choice as soon as possible, which brings opportunities for the application of CTP. In recent years, under the pressure of the CTP concept, the purchase plans of CTF related equipment have been mostly shelved. In addition, the improvement of newspaper printing quality requirements has also brought unprecedented pressure to the plate making process. Inaccurate overprint, poor film quality, and the problems of drying and assembling make the operators of each process of plate making exhausted, and CTP, a powerful full digital equipment, is also urgently needed to solve it. The production time of newspaper printing was greatly squeezed. At this time, CTP's growing maturity and the strong encouragement of pioneers made practitioners see the hope of changing the situation

the dilemma of CTP newspaper application

after several years of silence and popularity in recent years, the installed capacity of newspaper printing has reached about 60. After several years of use, all factories have begun to realize: the progressiveness of CTP is undeniable, and the concept that it is the direction of technological development has also been recognized. However, with the extension of use time and the increase of plate making volume, its high operating cost pressure is increasingly unbearable for many newspaper printing enterprises. It is not only the high price of plates, but also the high cost of washing and coating, and the equipment maintenance cost is not a small number (many CTPs introduced in the early stage should be replaced with laser tubes)

some factory directors admitted that CTP would not be adopted if only from the perspective of printing plants. CTP technology is indeed a new technology needed by newspaper printing, but when we return to reality, we find that what newspapers really need is CTP technology that is both economical and technologically progressiveness. Compared with commercial printing, newspaper printing uses much more plates, but the added value of the whole printing processing fee is not high, so we have to consider the cost of plates. The strict management of the press on the printing plant and the independence of the cost-effectiveness of the printing plant also forced the printing plant to consider the cost problem. At present, many newspaper factories that use CTP more, or the accounting of the newspaper office is not very strict, or the cost is clearly borne by the newspaper office. If the newspaper office does not bear the additional costs brought by CTP, the printing factory will be unable to bear the high cost pressure of CTP

after several years of use, in addition to the high operating cost, people have also found some other deficiencies of the CTP system. First, the high output speed of newspaper CTP is achieved at the expense of resolution to a certain extent. At present, the output resolution of most newspaper CTPs is often about 1200dpi. For example, when hanging 100 meshes, the number of gray scales of the output pictures can only reach 144, and the sense of hierarchy is insufficient. In particular, there is a significant gap between the subtle level and the traditional Phototypesetting newspaper, which has been recognized by many newspaper peers and customers. Due to the large number of pictures and high-quality advertisements in Chinese newspapers, the requirements of prepress equipment for newspaper printing are not different from those of commercial printing. The Phototypesetter owned by the newspaper industry is often better than that of commercial printing. The low-grade CTP equipment makes the use of the newspaper industry feel very inconvenient. Although some newspapers have also introduced commercial CTP, its application is still inappropriate due to speed and cost problems. Of course, the output resolution of some new models introduced in recent years can also be increased to 1800dpi, but the output speed has been unacceptable for newspaper production

second, the newspaper CTP is different from commercial printing in terms of model and plate material. It is not as versatile as the laser phototypesetting system, so there is little room to reduce the operation cost of the newspaper CTP system. Most newspaper CTP systems emphasize too much on output speed, which is completely different from CTP systems used in commercial printing in terms of imaging mode, laser tube characteristics, output accuracy, plate sensitivity and so on. For example, for thermal models from the same manufacturer, the plates used in the newspaper system and, for example, the plates used in the commercial system are of the same type in the test process. The newspaper system reflects high sensitivity, and the commercial system attaches importance to high precision

third, it is still uncertain which plate method will become the mainstream of the newspaper industry, which brings high technical risks to CTP's investment. The dispute between thermal, silver salt version and photopolymer version is still unresolved, and CTCP and CTUP have come into our sight again. Although the basis and process methods of these technologies are the same, due to the different chemical and optical principles of imaging, there is often no versatility between them. Even the CTP equipment of the same manufacturer and the same imaging method, the machine used in the newspaper industry does not have the possibility to upgrade to the field of commercial printing. Many technicians and factory directors in the industry have said that engineering plastics account for about 10%, and they are very concerned about the development of new technologies such as CTCP and CTUP, as well as the trend of digitization and automation of CTF process

Many newspapers have a large print volume of newspapers, and often need more than two sets of printing plates for the next step directly. At the same time, they are produced on several production lines. Because of its low microwave dielectric constant, when printing newspapers with a small number of pages with medium and large-scale computers, they often need two sets of the same printing plates, which is an unavoidable problem in newspaper production

due to the high cost of CTP consumables, the price of CTP machine is also much higher than that of a traditional plate making line, so users have to face such a problem: the introduction of equipment is to create profits for enterprises and is used to make money, but the actual benefits after the introduction of CTP are often indirect, while its directly increased operating costs are very high, which is often difficult to be compensated by indirect benefits. In a sense, the introduction of CTP often means the introduction of a money eating machine
